Welcome! Adrian JansonWelcome to the VITTA Programming Awards for 2008! Carrying on their support from last year, this year's Award is proudly sponsored by The Australian Computer Society and the Victorian Government. VITTA has long had strong links with both of these associations and we welcome their major support of this initiative. In addition to their support, we also welcome the support of Apple, Microsoft and Swinburne University.

This competition has been growing since 2001, and since being involved myself, I have had a desire to expand the scope of languages and involve as many students as possible. Last year the competition was expanded with the addition of a couple of programming languages and this year I am pleased to say will be no different. Expanding on the language choices of Visual Basic.Net, Python and GameMaker, this year students have the opportunity to enter categories catering to the new Apple iPhone SDK, Kahootz and Scratch. A category centred on the excellent SwinGame programming tools will allow students to use Visual Basic.Net, C# or Free Pascal.

We have also expanded the categories that can be entered, so that students are able to have a wide choice open to them. Three categories are offered: Primary, Secondary Category 1 (sponsored by SwinGame) and Secondary Category 2 (sponsored by Apple). In each category, prizes will be offered to the best boys' and girls' entries received.

I do hope you are able to particpate. I wish you all the very best!

Adrian Janson, VITTA President, Director of ICT: Melbourne High School

Register Now!

If you are interested in being involved, your school must be registered by clicking here.

Please don't register as individuals - your registration will not be accepted. If you are a class teacher, register your school for the categories in which you will be entering. If you are a student that wishes to enter and your school has not formally registered, please ask one of your teachers to register your school. This is very important, as we need to have a contact person to stay in touch with about your entry!

Remember, the closing date for registration is the 1st September!
